At this time we are not taking applications for this scholarship
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Candidates must be a rising Junior or Senior in Central Virginia. They must be interested in promoting individual self-reliance and be enthusiastic about the work of local nonprofits, community outreach and leadership. The program will be an opportunity for the student to demonstrate excellence in leadership, and community organizing and can be included in college applications and professional resumes. In most instances this program would satisfy any community service requirements.
WHAT IS THIS?
This program involves selecting a group of participants to design and implement a fundraising and awareness event to benefit individuals with disabilities served by Resources for Independent Living Inc. Students must submit an application then be chosen by agency board members and consumers. We are currently working with several local schools but we consider applications from all interested students, especially if you have a great new idea!
IS THERE A SECRET??
Not really, although it really boils down to who raises the most money. We recognize everyone who successfully raises above a certain amount, but ultimately the student who raises the most money at the end of the competition earns the title Student Advocate of the Year as well as a $5,000 scholarship to the college or university of their choice.
WHAT CAN I DO?
Whatever you want. There are some high profile events that go on in Central Virginia every year that could be replicated, or you can create your own new and innovative event.
